Woman's Land Army

Work
for woman on the land with guaranteed minimum wages was offered to volunteers
in the two branches of the Woman’s Land Army – a Regular Force and the Auxiliary
Force. The Auxiliary Force was recruited from women who could spend 4 weeks working on the land during busy times especially harvest. A working outfit of dungarees, gum boots and Mackintosh were provided if required. |

Rail fares were provided and women could volunteer for 4 weeks to 6 months.
If volunteers wanted to make land work their national service for the duration
of the war they were recruited into the Regular Force of the Woman’s Land
Army. Under this scheme, a month’s farm training with free board and lodging and a complete uniform outfit were provided. Woman attracted to a life in the open air could apply to Miss Ellice at the Woman’s Land Army offices at the College of Agriculture, 3 Union Street, Inverness |
