Evacuated Mothers and Children Arrive, Billeting Officers’ Advice.

Mothers and children who have been evacuated from the Edinburgh area arrived at Inverness on Friday evening by special trains. Their arrival was witnessed by a large crowd of people.

The evacuees were met by members of the local Evacuation Committee and during the course of the afternoon and evening were settled into homes in Inverness and the country districts.

Mr Mackenzie, the billeting officer, who has worked like a Trojan, has issued the following advice to evacuated mothers:-

It is earnestly urged that evacuated mothers should in every case assist as much as possible in the households in which they are placed and they must understand that they are expected to look after their children themselves, keep them in order, send them to bed early and spare the householders any unnecessary annoyance.

In every case evacuated mothers and children living with house holders must contribute an adequate sum for their food. In cases where they receive money from the Labour Exchange, this sum should be handed over to the householder to pay for their food.
