The Second World War is one of the most important events of the twentieth century. It changed the way people lived their lives. The war is within the lifetime of many people living today and memories of the war are strong.

We are also surrounded in the environment with reminders of the war. In towns and villages there are memorials to those who died.

There are other physical reminders such as disused fortifications, outlook posts, sunken wrecks etc.

Reminders of the war also exist in the form of old gas masks and ration books kept by people as memories of the past.

We have attempted to preserve some of these memories and to record some of the physical reminders as well as providing a wealth of teaching resources for use in the classroom.
